The Villa for a Group
Sleeping, and who goes where
Five bedrooms and five bathrooms for eight people: two king suites, both en suite, one in the loft with Table Mountain in its arched window, and a double and two single rooms on the first floor.
Kitchen & the long table
The kitchen opens straight onto the court, so whoever is cooking never misses a point. Three places to eat, by the occasion: a sunny bay window for six, the dining room for eight, and the covered patio for ten.
Flow, and where the group gathers
Three living rooms over three levels give eight people a corner each when someone wants a quiet moment.
The office
A room of its own upstairs, with a built-in desk, a sofa and fibre wifi.

The Setting
Seclusion & neighbour distance
Set well back from a quiet avenue, walled and gated, with high hedges keeping it private and Table Mountain on the horizon.
Nature, light & views
In December the light holds until after eight, so the garden stays in use long after the kids have gone to bed.
Quiet, with the city close
Kirstenbosch and its Sunday summer concerts are ten minutes away, the city fifteen and Clifton about fifteen over the mountain. The other way, on False Bay, are Muizenberg and the penguins at Boulders Beach.

The Padel Court
Private, and only yours
At the bottom of the garden, floodlit for matches late into the evening once the heat has gone out of the day.
The court underfoot
Green turf inside black steel, glass at both ends.
The pickleball court, and who it is for
Laid on astro, so the ball sits lower and slower than it would on a hard court. That makes it the family's court: ten-year-olds, their parents and anyone playing for the first time.
Coaching, and who comes to the court
Add coaching to the stay with Cape pros we know personally: every coach has played with us or come recommended by someone we trust.
The view from it
Look up between points and the mountain peaks sit right behind the far glass.

The Kitchen
The chef, and the shopping
The kitchen is yours, and for the nights you want a chef, we source one and quote it with the week. Candice, our concierge, can have the shopping in the fridge before you arrive, Babylonstoren's farm shop included, at an extra cost.
Local food, a short drive
Newlands and Claremont are five minutes away and the Constantia wine farms twenty, La Colombe among them: South Africa's Restaurant of the Year in 2023.
The braai, and the side terrace
A gas braai on the side terrace, its own table under the big tree, a few steps from the kitchen door.

The Relaxation
The pool
Set in the lawn within sight of the kitchen doors and the patio, so the water is always in view.
The gym, and the games
A gym with its own shower on the middle floor, and a half-size pool table indoors. In the garden, a basketball hoop, a golf net and a hockey goal.
Sleep, and room to do nothing
On a warm afternoon the panes of the covered patio fold back and it becomes part of the garden. The loft suite runs air conditioning for the warmest December nights.
A massage, and the spas in town
We can bring a masseuse to the villa, or book you into a spa for the morning. The Mount Nelson is about fifteen minutes away.

The Service on Site
Who is on site
Candice, our concierge, checks you in and out in person and is on call in Cape Town through your stay. The villa's own housekeeper looks after it Monday to Friday, except Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with linen and towels washed in the villa and personal laundry at an extra cost.
The grounds, and the gate
The pool and garden are serviced through the stay. A monitored alarm, an electric fence and cameras cover the entrance, and two cars park behind the gate.
Power, whatever the grid does
An inverter with battery back-up keeps the lights and the fibre wifi running through a power cut.

She finds places that live up to the photographs, and gets the less obvious things right: the location, the atmosphere, and how well a house works for the people in it.
Danny · God’s Window
She thinks of the things you'd never think to check. The layout, the views, whether a place feels too touristy. You can tell she books as if she were staying there herself.
Anna · Sublime Comporta
She has a knack for finding somewhere in the middle of everything that doesn't feel touristy. Hard to get once, let alone twice.

Questions about Wychwood
Why book through Padel Hideaways?
The villas are looked after by people who are particular about who they work with, and they work with us. That takes time to earn and it is why this collection grows slowly, a villa at a time.
The rate is the villa's own, and booking with us adds nothing to it: our commission comes from within what the villa already charges. The Concierge, Driver, Chef and Coach are quoted alongside it as one price, and we are on call for them all week. Every enquiry comes to us, so the person who answers is the person who arranges it.
When do we arrive, and can we book a shorter stay?
Check-in can be any day, with a minimum of seven nights. Arrivals run from 15 to 29 December, and every stay checks out by the morning of 5 January. Tell us your dates and we will confirm with the villa.
Which airport do we fly into for Wychwood?
Cape Town International (CPT), about twenty minutes away by road. Add the Driver and you are met at arrivals and driven in.
What comes with the villa, and what can I add at Wychwood?
The whole villa, yours alone, 5 suites for 8. A concierge comes with the villa. Add a driver, a chef and a coach and we plan the week and come back with one price.
What is added to the rate at Wychwood?
The rate includes VAT. We confirm any other charge, such as cleaning, with the villa before your quote is sent.
Yes. Wychwood is a villa with a private padel court in Cape Town, floodlit, laid in green turf inside glass and black steel at the bottom of the garden in Rondebosch, with the mountain standing over the far end and the court yours alone for your stay. Beside it is a pickleball court on astro, which is the family court rather than one for serious players.
Is Wychwood a good villa for a family Christmas in Cape Town?
It was made for one, and it suits two couples just as well, with or without kids. Five bedrooms and five bathrooms sleep eight: a king suite on the first floor, a second king suite in the loft, a double, and two single rooms with desks for the kids. The garden holds a pool, a padel court, a pickleball court, a basketball hoop, a golf net and a hockey goal. It is let only from 15 December to 5 January, over Christmas and New Year, and only through Padel Hideaways.
How much does a week at Wychwood cost for eight people?
From R189,000 for a week before 22 December, which is R23,625 each for eight. From 22 December to 5 January the villa is R252,000 per week, R31,500 each, and a stay that crosses the two is counted night by night. In euros that is about €9,450 and €12,600 per week, confirmed at the rate on the day.
Are there other villas with a padel court in Cape Town?
Yes, two more in the collection: Villa Intaba in Bishopscourt, which sleeps fourteen, and Villa Kilimani in Constantia, which sleeps ten. Both are let through the year, and all three have a private padel court on site.
