Is there a security deposit at Klipkuil?

The estate sets its own security deposit, and it is written into your agreement. We will give you the figure for your dates with your quote.

When do we arrive, and can we book a shorter stay?

Check-in can be any day, with a minimum of two nights. It rises to 3 nights from 15 December to 15 January and on public holiday weekends, and to 4 nights at Easter. Tell us your dates and we will confirm with the estate.

Which airport do we fly into for Klipkuil?

Cape Town International (CPT), two and a half hours away by road. Add the Driver and you are met at arrivals and driven in.

What comes with the estate, and what can I add at Klipkuil?

All three villas, yours alone, 6 suites for 12. Add the concierge, a driver and a coach and we plan the week and come back with one price.

When do I pay for Klipkuil, and what if we have to cancel?

50% of the week confirms the booking and the other 50% is the balance before you arrive. The dates for both are on the booking form. Both payments are non-refundable once made. Should you need to cancel or shorten the stay, the portfolio will try to re-let the nights, and where it does, the owner may refund them, less 3% for rebooking. Serious travel disruption is considered case by case with the owner.

Klipkuil is priced in rand. What will it actually cost me?

The estate is priced in rand, so the euro figures here follow the exchange rate. About €1,200 per night for the whole place, €8,400 for the week, one rate all year. Tell us your dates and we will confirm the figure at the rate on the day and put both currencies in the quote.

Is there anyone on site at Klipkuil?

Not through the day, by design. The estate runs on its own: solar power, armed response, and the keys are yours for your stay. Housekeeping can be arranged from eight until five, and we include the daily figure in your quote. If your group would like a team on site throughout, we will suggest a villa in the collection that has one.

The Villa for a Group

Sleeping: The three villas have two bedrooms each, a queen and a twin, and sleep a group of twelve. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and an outdoor shower off its side balcony, with the mountains in view.
Flow: Each villa stands apart in the veld, giving your group private space to retreat to, with the fire pit and the communal area as places to gather.
For families: Children are welcome, with camp cots available and a play area on the estate.

The Setting

Seclusion: A hundred and seventy-five hectares of the Klein Karoo with nothing else on it. Montagu is twenty minutes away and out of sight.
The view, and the wildlife: Mountains rise on three sides and fynbos valleys run out from the decks. You share the land with meerkats, tortoises and wild cats.
Getting here: Cape Town is two and a half hours away by road, or twenty minutes by air to the estate's own helipad.

The Kitchen

The kitchen: Klipkuil is self-catering, with a full kitchen and a long table in each villa. Outside, there's a wood-fired pizza oven and a built-in braai, with wood supplied every night.
Eating out: For the mornings you want to eat out, Montagu has 22 Church Street, The Rambling Rose and The Pastry Place. De Nagmaal, also in the town, sells handmade citrus preserves and ceramics.
The wine: Montagu stands where the mountain passes meet the Robertson wine valley. You can add a driver for the valley and the passes, at an extra cost.

Water: Each villa has its own heated plunge pool, and your group shares a swimming pool at the communal area and a wood-fired hot tub.
The gym, and the games: A small gym pavilion opens onto the veld. There's also a six-hole putting course beside the court, and a room with table tennis and a pool table.

Who is on site: The estate is unstaffed and yours alone, with the gardens, the pools and the court looked after for you. You can add housekeeping at an extra cost, from eight until five, arranged before you arrive.
Power, and security: The estate runs on solar power with an inverter, and is covered by armed response.
Planning, and who to call: You can add our concierge to your stay: we plan it with you, arrange the food shopping before you arrive and are on call while you are there.

The Feeling

The Klein Karoo: It is deeply quiet here, and on a clear night the sky is full of stars.
