01 Hideaway Included

Every villa is read under the same seven categories. This is this one, in full.

The Villa for a Group

Sleeping & en-suite quality
Five bedrooms across two villas. Gable takes eight in two king en-suites that open to the garden and a loft above, Vineyard takes four in two king en-suites. Two baby cribs at each villa on top of that.
The loft, said plainly
Four three-quarter beds under the eaves, with a smart TV, fatsaks and the best view in the villa. It has no bathroom of its own, so whoever sleeps up there uses the en-suites below. Right for older children or close friends, not for a fourth couple.
Kitchen & the long table
Gable's kitchen is open to the living and dining room and out to a covered patio with a braai. Vineyard has its own large kitchen, a scullery and a table warmed by a double-sided fireplace.
Design calibre
Both villas by Stephen Mayers, who took the Cape gable and built it forward rather than copying it. On a farm that works for a living. Nothing here is staged for arrival.

The Setting

Seclusion & neighbour distance
Twenty hectares between the Franschhoek and Drakenstein mountains, at the foot of the Hottentots Holland. Each villa has its own driveway, its own parking and its own garden. They sit apart from one another and apart from everything else.
Who else is on the farm
The owners live in the manor house, which is their home and not part of the let. No other guests are on the property while you are, whichever villa you book.
Nature, light & views
Vineyards to the fence line, paddocks, an olive orchard, three dams and a river.
Quiet
The farm starts at six and keeps the noise down until you are out. Quiet hours run from six in the evening to six in the morning, and they mean it. The nearest noise is a donkey.

The Padel Court

Verification & privacy
One court, on the property, in the open ground between the vineyard and the paddocks. No other guests are on the farm while you are there, so nobody is queueing for it.
Surface & build
Kept daily, alongside the vines and the grounds. Rackets are on the estate.
Play through the day
Coaching is arranged on site and quoted with the week. Basketball, boules and a putting green sit in the same stretch of farm, and there is a ping pong table for the hours nobody wants to move.
Aesthetic integration
Vineyard on one side, paddocks on the other, mountains behind, and the ball carries a long way across ground like that.

The Kitchen

Chef access & provisioning
Breakfast is cooked every day, and then lunch or dinner, whichever suits the morning. Both villas have full kitchens if you want to cook, and a covered braai at Gable if you want to cook outside.
Local food, a short drive
Franschhoek village is under twenty minutes and there is a complimentary shuttle into it. Boschendal is fifteen. The team books the tables.
Wine & produce culture
Cap Classique made on the farm by Etienne Louw, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir first picked in January 2023, plus an estate Rosé and Chardonnay. Soft drinks and local house wines are in the rate, a premium list at a surcharge. Olive oil pressed here and bottled in handmade clay, eggs from the chicken pen, herbs and vegetables from the garden. Dinner can be laid among the olive trees.

The Relaxation

Pool & water
A heated organic eco pool with a shallow step, loungers and an outdoor shower. Three dams, a river, a waterfall and fly fishing beyond it.
Gym & training
A full gym with a Peloton, and a Pilates studio. A trainer or a Pilates instructor is arranged on request.
Sauna, ice, spa
An outdoor sauna, an ice bath and a jacuzzi, all in the rate. A Kolkol wood-fired hot tub in each villa's own garden. The spa is on site and treatments are booked and charged separately.
Sleep & unprogrammed space
A boma bar under the pines by the river, an outdoor cinema, an art gallery of the owner's rotating collection, and twenty hectares to lose an afternoon in.

The Service on site

On-site staff & housekeeping
Estate manager, hospitality manager, head chef, butlers, gardeners, and a guide who runs the wine safari and the horses. Daily cleaning and laundry, and a laundry room of your own at Gable.
Upkeep & grounds
The farm, the pools and the court kept daily. Security patrols from half six in the evening until six.
Runs-itself factor
You are put in a WhatsApp group on arrival. Hospitality answers until nine, a night manager after that. Nobody in your group carries a key.
The estate team on the manor house steps

Bed linen and a woven bolster
A horse and its handler under the equestrian archway

The Feeling

Arrival & sense of place
The farm road, the vines to the fence line, the mountains standing behind them. The drive in does the work.
The week that arranges itself
The eco pool by eight, the court in the open ground, the sauna and the ice bath after, the Kolkol tub when it cools, the screen outside once it is dark. Sheep get out. The donkeys object. Nobody moves the plan, because there isn't one.
The fireplace and its stacked wood

The practical questions about Oakvale Estate

Why book through you?

The villas are looked after by people who are particular about who they work with, and they work with us. That takes time to earn and it is why this collection grows slowly, a villa at a time.

You pay the villa's own rate, and the week costs no more for our being in it: our commission comes out of what the villa already charges. The Concierge, Driver, Chef and Coach are quoted alongside it as one price, and we are on call for them all week. Every enquiry comes to us, so the person who answers is the person who arranges it.

Is there a security deposit at Oakvale Estate?

The estate sets its deposit and it is written into your agreement before you book. Ask us and we will tell you the figure for your dates.

When do we arrive, and can we book a shorter stay?

Any day, minimum 2 nights. Tell us your dates and we will confirm with the estate.

Which airport do we fly into for Oakvale Estate?

Cape Town International (CPT), about an hour away by road. Add the Driver and you are met at arrivals and driven in.

What comes with the estate, and what can I add at Oakvale Estate?

The whole estate, yours alone, 4 suites for 12. A concierge and a chef come with the estate. Add a driver and a coach and we plan the week and come back with one price.

What is added to the rate at Oakvale Estate?

Nothing. €53,375 is the week with the cleaning and the taxes already inside it, quoted through Oakvale Collection. That is the figure you pay.

Checked 6 August 2026

Can we book just one of the two villas?

Oakvale quotes them separately and either one gives you the run of the farm, but we quote the estate whole, for one group. Twelve of you across both villas is what the rate on this page covers.

Where does everyone sleep, exactly?

Four king en-suites, two in each villa. The fifth room is a loft above Gable with four three-quarter beds and no bathroom of its own, so whoever sleeps there uses the en-suites downstairs. It suits older children or close friends rather than a fourth couple.

Can more than twelve of us come?

Not yet. Two tented villas, Water's Edge and Nature's Lookout, are being added to the farm. They take four each and will bring it to twenty. They are not built or priced into what we quote here, so twelve across the two villas is what this page covers.

Is anyone else on the farm while we are there?

No other guests. The owners live in the manor house, which is their home and not part of what you book, and the rest of the twenty hectares is yours.

What is not in the rate?

Spa treatments, padel coaching, horse riding, a personal trainer or Pilates instructor, a driver for the week, the wine safari and premium wines. Anything the estate books for you off the farm carries a 20% concierge fee. The sauna, ice bath, jacuzzi, gym, court and both hot tubs are in the rate.
